Several Liberal Democrat politicians who are active at European
or national level are based in our area.
Graham Watson MEP

Graham is our Lib-Dem MEP. He was the
first British Liberal Democrat ever to be elected to the European
Parliament, winning the old Somerset & North Devon constituency
with a majority of over 22,500. In 1999 he was elected to represent
the new enlarged South West of England constituency, which includes
Bristol, Gloucestershire, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire, Devon, and
Cornwall.
In January 2002 Graham was elected as
Leader of the 53-strong group of Liberal Democrat members of the
European Parliament. Previously he had served on the Committee for
Economic & Monetary Affairs and Industrial Policy, on the Budgets
Committee, and as Chairman of the Committee on Citizens' Freedoms
and Rights, Justice and Home Affairs.
His hobbies and leisure interests include
sailing and listening to jazz music. Graham lives with his wife
and two young children in the small market town of Langport, in
Somerset.
