Our Priorities for Salisbury
Let's get the basics right first.
Re-surface the uneven pavements. Repair our potholed roads. Unblock the gullies and storm drains to stop flooding. Clean up the weeds, litter and fallen leaves.
Let's get the City Centre back on its feet.
We will work with local shops and businesses to help the City Centre recover from Novichok, Covid-19 and on-line shopping.
No more greenfield site developments.
Salisbury should be a place where people live, work, shop and spend their leisure time. No more retirement homes. No more edge-of-town shopping or developments on greenfield sites.
Listen to, and act on, residents' concerns.
Wiltshire Council is out of touch. More decisions should be taken here. Local residents should always be consulted on major issues.
Real action on climate change.
South Wiltshire needs to move faster to be carbon neutral by 2030. That means real action on renewable energy, electric charging points and support for cycling and walking.
Fair funding for our public services.
The NHS, Salisbury schools and Wiltshire police are all underfunded. It's time we had a Council that stood up for public services and for South Wiltshire.
Move the Police Station.
Bourne Hill isn't a police station. It doesn't have cells. Millions of £££s are being wasted driving prisoners to Melksham. Wilton Road police station should be re-opened and cells should be built there.
Bring life back to our City.
We need low-cost homes for young people to rent and buy in the city. We will encourage developments on redundant brown-field sites. We will promote flats above shops.
20 means 20 in the City Centre.
We want the police to enforce the 20mph limit in Bedwin Street, Castle Street, Churchfields Road and Mill Road. We want a new pedestrian crossing at the junction of Gigant Street and Brewery Lane.
Bring back our Post Office.
We are campaigning for the Post Office to make good their promise to open a main branch in Salisbury again. Sign our petition at www.salisburylibdems.org.uk/post-office-petition
